Beyond Yes and No
Lead Graphic Designer
For two years, I had the privilege of merging social justice and design as the Lead Graphic Designer for Beyond Yes and No (@beyondyesandno), a social media advocacy initiative that endeavoured to raise awareness about child sexual abuse and equip parents with skills to promote their children's bodily autonomy.
Making a Difference
As the Lead Graphic Designer for Beyond Yes and No, I developed visually compelling and engaging illustrations. Before I started as the Lead Graphic Designer, Beyond Yes and No received 100-300 impressions per post. Within several months, our posts were achieving up to 14,000 impressions.
My Illustration Process
Using Adobe Illustrator, I developed visually compelling and engaging graphics for social media that maintained the organization's visual identity. For each design, Beyond Yes and No's founder would send me a brief outlining the next post's subject and providing any additional content they wanted incorporated, such as reference images and colour guidelines.
If I was using reference images, I would outline the elements and then colour them in based on the guidelines, making any adjustments as needed.

How Was the Beyond Yes and No Experience?
In each post, I transformed complex research evidence about sexual violence into clear, understandable visuals that helped followers learn about effective strategies to prevent child sexual abuse.
Designing for social media was a unique challenge. Sensitive content, like sexual violence, can be automatically removed or censored, so I always had to be aware of balancing the tone of my designs between serious and light-hearted.
Beyond Yes and No offered the unique and humbling experience for me to create illustrations that would create a positive difference in the world.
